Free Furniture Donation Pickup in Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley — How It Works at ACTS
Moving, downsizing, or finally clearing out the guest room that's become a storage unit? Donating furniture is the right call — but getting large pieces out of your home is where most people get stuck.
ACTS Thrift Store offers free donation pickup throughout Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley. No fees, no minimums, no logistics headaches. You schedule it online, the driver shows up within your window, and your furniture is gone — along with a tax receipt for your records.
Here's everything you need to know.
What ACTS Will Pick Up
ACTS handles a broad range of household donations in a single trip. One pickup can include:
Furniture — Sofas, chairs, dining tables, dressers, bookshelves, entertainment centers, bed frames
Clothing and shoes — All ages and sizes, in good condition
Household goods — Kitchenware, décor, small appliances, lamps
Electronics and e-waste — Computers, TVs, phones, printers (accepted every day of the year)
Books, toys, and games
Drivers come equipped with dollies and can disassemble large pieces like bed frames and entertainment centers on-site. If you've got a mixed load — a couch, three boxes of clothes, and an old monitor — one trip covers all of it.
A few things ACTS can't accept: mattresses and box springs, paint, hazardous materials, broken furniture, or large appliances like refrigerators and washing machines. If you're unsure about a specific item, call your nearest location before scheduling.
How to Schedule a Free Pickup
It takes about five minutes:
Complete the online pickup request form
Choose a date and time window
Get an instant confirmation email
Receive a reminder call the day before
You don't need to be home for the pickup — just note where the items will be (front porch, garage, side gate) in the scheduling form. The driver arrives, loads everything, and leaves a donation receipt.
For furniture pickups, it's a good idea to send photos or note dimensions of larger pieces when scheduling so the driver comes prepared.
Why Free Pickup Matters
Most people don't realize how few organizations actually offer free large-item pickup. Habitat for Humanity's San Gabriel Valley ReStore charges $40 for a furniture pickup appointment. Goodwill's pickup service has limited availability and specific area restrictions. Many other donation centers simply don't offer pickup at all — drop-off or nothing.
ACTS pickup is completely free, available throughout Southern California, and can include e-waste items that other organizations won't touch.
That's not a small distinction. If you're clearing out a two-bedroom apartment or donating an entire living room set, the difference between free and $40 matters — especially when your donation is already doing something good.
Where Your Furniture Goes
When you donate to ACTS, your items go directly onto the floor of one of our three stores in Pasadena, Pomona, or Duarte. They're priced affordably and purchased by neighbors in the community — families furnishing a first apartment, students setting up a dorm room, or someone rebuilding after a hard season.
Every dollar earned from those sales goes back into the community. ACTS directs 100% of net proceeds to local partner organizations including Door of Hope, Inland Valley Hope Partners, FrontSight Military Ministry, and Obria Medical Clinics — all serving families, veterans, and individuals in the San Gabriel Valley and surrounding areas.
Your old couch isn't just getting a new home. It's funding services for people who need real help.
